Sycamores can cope in nearly any situation, and is tough against wind, urban pollution and salt spray. They’re mostly planted in coastal regions, but it’s still a great plant for areas where you get a lot of snow and salted roads during the winter.
These particular Sycamore have been grown natively in iron-rich Herefordshire, an area that is treated to a wide variety of different weather conditions. Once they reach your garden they’re already used to a harsh climate and will have no trouble thriving even in the most demanding areas.
It’s a deciduous plant that produces palmate, multi-lobed leaves, starting as a striking green-tinged pink before settling into a deep yellow later in the year. Around Spring you can expect small green-yellow flowers to burst out, followed by winged seeds in the Autumn.
Sycamore provides shelter for smaller animals in especially exposed areas where other plants aren’t as tough against the wind, and when flowering it provides early pollen for bumblebees.
